Forecast Last Updated at Friday, July 30, 2021 at 7:02AM
A few showers moved across our region before sunrise and exit south early. While we'll have a mostly dry day, a stray shower or thundershower remains possible until late-afternoon. A front moves across the area from north to south today. Temperatures are only a couple degrees cooler, but we have a noticeably NW wind. Saturday is dry and pleasant ahead of the next front arriving Sunday. Widely scattered showers and thundershowers return late Saturday night through early evening Sunday; however, we'll have plenty of dry hours Sunday. Cooler weather settles in next week.
The 2022 Blue Ridge Calendar Photo Contest is complete. Our Grand Prize Winner is Valerie Seals with her photo of Big Creek in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. But there are 14 other winning photos. See all the winning photos at the 2022 Blue Ridge Calendar Photo Gallery. Many thanks to all the photographers who shared their time and talent with us. Once again, we had stunning photography to choose from.
We are now preparing the calendar for the printer and hope to be selling calendars by the end of August.

The weather pattern is becoming very "un-summerish". The transition begins today.
The first of two fronts moves through our area today from north to south. Moisture is limited in a breezy NW flow. Only stray showers or thundershowers are expected after the initial wave exits early this morning. We'll have dry, pleasant weather tonight and Saturday.
The second front moves through Sunday. Showers and thundershowers develop late Saturday night and will be widely scattered at most during the day Sunday. We'll have plenty of dry hours Sunday.
The front settles to our south and east, stretching from the Outer Banks across Georgia and to Texas. Disturbances will round a broad trough setting up in Eastern Canada and the Eastern U. S. Timing of these disturbances is difficult but is becoming clearly as we get closer in time. While afternoons and evening will still be the most likely timeframe for a shower, these are less driving by daytime heating.
Monday has only isolated showers and thundershowers. Tuesday and Wednesday appear to be the wettest days of this set. At least widely scattered coverage continues into Thursday. Temperatures will be cooler than average all of next week.
