Soggy

We are in the middle of a battleground between two airmasses (warm to the south and east, cool to the north and northwest). Periods of rain are in play through Friday evening with fog in the region. Even the weekend is not immune from some rain. Fog? It's in play, especially along the eastern escarpment, through Sunday.

Forecast Discussion

A strong flow from the SW US into the Eastern US keeps us on a conveyor belt for moisture through the weekend. Meanwhile, we are caught between a warm airmass to our south and cooler air to the north. Surface fronts waffle north and south but remain close enough to keep rain in the forecast every day through Sunday.

A warm front surged north through our area Tuesday night. However, a cold front to our northwest moves through tonight triggering a gradual return to cooler weather. That front stalls to our south Thursday and Friday.

Areas of rain will continue to move ENE across the region through Thursday. A wave of low pressure moves east along the stalled front, bringing another round of rain late Thursday through Friday evening.

Cooler air moves in after the low exits east Friday night. Saturday and Sunday are seasonally cool with lots of clouds. Lots of moisture remains across the Southern Appalachians. Clouds hang tough. Periods of light rain will be in play Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening.

Drier air should arrive Monday into Tuesday thanks to high pressure centered into Eastern Canada. We still anticipate a return to winter around Mid-December.
