We have a super smart nine months old female Golden Retriever/Lab mix,a 2-3 year old male Australian Shepherd, a three year old super sweet male Chihuahua, a loving and energetic three months old female Boxer/Collie mix, an adorable 8 week old female Boxer/Terrier mix and 5 six week old super cute Jack Russell/Dachshund/Beagle mixes. Come and meet us and save a life. All these animals were rescued from our local Animal Control and awaiting adoptions from responsible pet owners. We will be there between 10 am and 2 pm. Rescues are the best breed- please consider giving these wonderful animals a second chance in life

The 3rd Annual Watauga Lake Clean Up will be held on June 30th 2012.
HIDEThere will be two registration sites. Little Milligan boat launch off hwy. 321 & Moody Road. Fish Springs Marina @ 191 Fish Springs Road, Hampton,TN. Registration begins @ 8:30 am. TVA provided trash bags and Forestry Dept. provided gloves will be handed out. We will be cleaning both the shorelines and water areas. We need more boats. If you have one please bring it along. A celebration picnic will follow the clean up. The picnic will be held @ Fish Spring Marina around 3:00pm. There will be food, prizes and entertainment by The True Grass Band. The Harrill Senior Center is once again offering a program developed for people with arthritis. This low-impact, joint-safe program has been proven to reduce arthritis pain and increase activity. Medi Home Hospice will hold a Spring Memorial Service on Wednesday, May 23 at 12:00 at the Grandfather Park in Foscoe.
HIDEMusic and refreshments will enhance this time of reflection and remembering before families and friends release a butterfly in the name of a loved one who has died in the past six months.
To reserve a butterfly, please phone the hospice office at 828-733-0663 or 866-900-4354 by May 21. Medi Home Hospice will provide a butterfly to those we have served at no charge; others may reserve one for a $5 donation.

Registration is now open for Math Camp at Appalachian State University. This is the 15th summer for this popular educational camp for rising 6th-12th grade students.
HIDEMath Camp is for ALL students, whether you love math, hate math, struggle with math or find it easy. We have hands-on activities, graphing calculators, computers, competitions, group interaction, prizes, snacks, fire-side chats (without the fire) and magic tricks that introduce algebra word problems. HIDEThe Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no sponsors and no registration fees. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured.

Do you know someone who is on Medicare and needs assistance in paying for their prescription drugs? Medicare beneficiaries may be eligible for the federal Extra Help low income subsidy program if he/she has limited income and resources.
HIDEThe Extra Help program can increase cost savings by paying for all or part of the monthly premiums, annual deductibles and provide lower prescription co-payments under a Medicare prescription drug plan. To qualify for Extra Help, the monthly income must be limited to $1,361.25 for an individual ($1,838.75 for a married couple living together). Additionally, the total resources must be limited to $12,640 for an individual ($25,260 for a married couple living together). The resources do not include a primary residence or a vehicle. If you believe someone you know may qualify for the Extra Help program, please encourage them to apply on-line at www.socialsecurity.gov, or contact the Watauga County Project on Aging at 828-265-8090 and we may assist them with completing the on-line application process or send them a paper application.

The 2012 A Cool 5 Race Weekend will be held June 8th and 9th, 2012 on Beech Mountain, NC. Events include a pre-race pasta dinner hosted at the Buckeye Recreation Center with live music, games and activities, and a guest motivational speaker (to be announced). Pre-race packet pick-up will be available for race day participants at the Buckeye Recreation Center during the pasta dinner festivities.
Saturday consists of the 5 mile race, pet-friendly (complete with doggy water stops), 1.5 mile fun run and walk, race expo, kids fun village with bounce house, complementary beer, and post-race meal and awards presentation with live music and games for the family.

Pre-registered racers are guaranteed a race t-shirt, a post-race meal voucher, and other free swag in the works. For those of you 21 and over, you will also receive 2 free adult beverages upon finishing one of the A Cool 5 races. Race Day registration will be available; however, race t-shirts and swag will be given out on a first-come first served basis and sizes may be limited. Be sure to register early to geet your race T and swag!
Note: Running Strollers are allowed on the entire race course. Dogs will be allowed for the first 1.5 mile fun run/walk event. Doggy water stops and "doggy bags" will be available along the way as well!
