Nice Weekend Finish

After a soggy overnight, early cloud cover will thin allowing for a decent amount of afternoon sunshine. Monday features intervals of clouds & sunshine and perhaps a shower or two, mostly near the Blue Ridge. Steadier rain returns later Monday night into Tuesday, followed by clearing and seasonably cooler for Tuesday night. Wednesday and Thursday look like the weather picks of the week.

Forecast Discussion

The remnant low of Nestor was moving into eastern North Carolina this morning and will exit offshore later this afternoon. This will take the unsettled weather with it, with early cloudiness yielding to a partly sunny and milder afternoon.

Meanwhile, we will be tracking the next strong cold front to impact the region, scheduled for a Tuesday morning arrival. Moist, southerly flow out of ahead of the front might generate a few daytime showers on Monday, especially along the Blue Ridge. A steadier period of more significant rainfall arrives later Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Skies clear Tuesday afternoon or evening, and this will provide a sunny Wednesday and Thursday around the mountains along with seasonably cooler temperatures.

The forecast models are in warring factions with respect to the timing of the next cold front (Friday vs. later in the weekend). With a decelerating trend, we will push back the rain to later Friday into next weekend.
