Mostly Dry

We are now in a long stretch of mostly dry weather--warm through Wednesday; pleasant Thursday; cooler after that. We have the slightest risk of a stray passing shower this afternoon. Otherwise, enjoy beautiful early-Fall weather!

The 2018 Blue Ridge Parkway Calendar is packed with great photography from the RaysWeather.Com Photo Contest. It has climate information for the entire Parkway and includes pages for November/December 2017 so it can be used soon. Get yours at RaysMarketplace.Com or at many retails across the region.

Forecast Discussion

After a brief smack-down late Friday from an isolated storm (including hail), we can expect dry weather for the foreseeable future thanks to high pressure centered in the Northeast followed by subsidence around the periphery of Hurricane Maria (sinking air outside the region of the storm). A dry front moves through Thursday (dry because Maria has robbed so much moisture from the Southeast). Cooler weather follows for Friday and next weekend.

Tropical Systems...
The remnant low from Jose is spinning down southeast of Cape Cod. It fades off the map tomorrow.
Maria is a Category 3 hurricane centered more than 300 miles east of Nassau. It's moving NNW. Maria will stall east of the NC Coast Wednesday and Thursday, close enough to Cape Hatteras Thursday that the Outer Banks will feel some effects and beach erosion could be an issue. Friday, Maria gets caught up in the front (the front passing through here Thursday) and then speeds northeast away from the U. S.
