Snow will persist this evening, with occasional bands of moderate
to heavy snow. Some sleet may also mix in at times. During the
heavier bands, a quick inch or two of snow may accumulate in less
than an hour, causing low visibility and poor driving conditions.
Those traveling along I-81, or I-77 need to be aware of poor
driving conditions and watch for possible slowed or stopped
vehicles. Drivers should allow extra time to reach their
destination on snow covered roads.

...Ongoing Winter Storm To Impact the Region Tonight...
.A fast moving low pressure system will slide southeast out of
the Midwest and into the Tennessee Valley later today before
passing offshore the Carolinas by early Sunday. A wintry mix of
snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected across the Blacksburg
forecast area. Snow amounts of 4 to 8 inches or more are expected
within this corridor, with as much as a quarter-inch of ice in
Ashe and Watauga Counties.
...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EDT SUNDAY...
* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation ongoing. Snow and sleet
ongoing across the warned area will continue into the evening.
An expected transition to freezing rain is expected in Ashe
and Watauga Counties. Additional 1 to 3 inches of snow across
Grayson County, with less than an inch of snow or sleet
accumulation in the High Country. Total snow accumulations of
3 to 6 inches, with localized amounts up to 9 inches, and ice
accumulations of up to one to a quarter- inch are expected.

Alleghany NC and Watauga Counties.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on difficult travel conditions. Be
