Special Weather Statement issued April 19 at 8:20PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg

...AN AREA OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL AFFECT WATAUGA AND ASHE COUNTIES Until 915 PM EDT... At 811 PM EDT, A large area of thunderstorms was moving north into Watauga and Ashe counties from the south. The potential exists for these storms to produce torrential rainfall for an extended period of time that may quickly renew the need for a Flash Flood Warning. Note, a Flood Warning is already in effect for much of Watauga County through the evening. Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail are possible with this storm. Locations impacted include... Boone... Jefferson... West Jefferson... Blowing Rock... and Lansing. This includes The following Location Appalachian State University. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a * Flood Warning for Small Streams in... Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina... * Until 1000 PM EDT * At 701 PM EDT, Minor to moderate flooding will continue across portions of Watauga county for a few more hours yet as a result of excessive rainfall earlier today on saturated ground. The Watauga River is currently in flood at Sugar Grove with a stage of 11.0 feet. Flood stage is 8.0 feet. Other small creeks and streams across the county will likely be near or above bankful as well for a few more hours. * Some locations that will experience flooding include... Boone... Beech Mountain... Foscoe... Sugar Grove... and Todd. This includes the following streams and drainages... Pond Creek... Norris Fork... Laurel Fork... Meat Camp Creek... and Three Top Creek. This includes The following Location Appalachian State University and vicinity.
