Watauga Community Band Fall Concert

The Watauga Community Band performs it’s annual Fall Concert, Sunday, October 21, at 4PM.

Black Saturday 5K Honoring Dr. Jim Avant Scholarship Fund

Come out and support the Dr. Jim Avant Scholarship Endowment Fundraiser by participating in the annual Black Saturday 5K Run/Walk! This year the race will be held on Saturday, November 17th, beginning and ending at the newly built Leon Levine Hall. Dr. Avant was an integral part of our Appalachian Family, and without him, our Quinn Athletic Center would not exist. All proceeds from this 5K will go directly into a new scholarship fund for Appalachian State University Students. Early registration, on or before November 14, is $15 for students, and $20 for the public. Late registration is $25 for all. Registration can be completed online at active.com. All participants will receive an event T-shirt, as well as be eligible for door prizes! Music and refreshments will be awaiting participants at the end of their run/walk. Valle Country Fair 40 Years Supporting Our Community

Saturday October 20, 2018 is the 40th consecutive Valle Country Fair, an overgrown church bazaar set in the center of one of the most picturesque valleys in the North Carolina mountains, takes place in Valle Crucis, NC. The gathering is an authentic harvest-season community celebration that revolves around quality hand-made crafts with more than 160 exhibitors, home-cooked food and mountain music. Enjoy local bluegrass and country music, many fresh foods such as Brunswick stew, chili and corn muffin, fresh-pressed apple cider, baked goods, jams and jellies, apple butter made on site. Kids enjoy an assortment of activities such as pony rides and face painting. Live music 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. Ample and close parking is available for $10/ car. Parking begins as early as 7:30 a.m. Please, no pets. The Church of the Holy Cross in cooperation with the Valle Crucis Conference Centers sponsors the Valle Country Fair to raise funds for those in need. All net Fair proceeds are returned to our greater community through grants to local non-profit organizations and for relief to families with emergency needs.
