Reality Check

Late summer and early fall have been amazingly warm. We get a stern reminder today that it really is late-October and it’s about time for some colder weather in the mountains. Aside from a stray early flurry, skies were bright and sunny today, but it was chilly. Strong winds this morning diminished this afternoon, and will die-down to calm tonight. That will set the stage for a frost/freeze by daybreak Monday. Daytime temperatures moderate nicely for Monday and Tuesday, before we cool back down again thereafter.

For your reading pleasure, here is a cold and snowy RaysWeather.Com Fearless Forecast for Winter 2018-2019.

Forecast Discussion

Canadian high pressure is building strongly into the region today. Strong winds early this morning diminished during the afternoon, falling to calm tonight. With bright sunshine, temperatures were nearly 15-degrees below normal. Under clear skies tonight and with the high building overhead, a widespread frost/freeze is expected.

Temperatures will moderate nicely by Monday afternoon as the high slides offshore and we get a return southerly wind flow. This pleasant temperature regime continues on Tuesday before the next dry front moves through Tuesday night. That will promote some cooling for Wednesday and Thursday as the weather remains dry.

Some changes occur by late in the week as low-pressure attempts to get going in the northern Gulf of Mexico, due in some part to some of the moisture and energy from eastern Pacific Hurricane Willa. This system will spread clouds and some rainfall into the mountains by Thursday night and Friday. Unsettled weather could linger into a portion of next weekend, although those details are uncertain at this time range.
