Warmer; Late-day Mischief

Warmer, more humid air is streaming into the Southern Appalachians. Fronts will make slow progress south and east this weekend. Saturday is warmer with lots of dry hours; however, an isolated afternoon shower or storm is possible. Then late-afternoon and this evening, we'll be watching a storm approaching from the west. Sunday has increased shower and storm coverage ("scattered"). We're still holding out for a drier Memorial Day with only isolated thundershower coverage. Bottom line: keep your outdoor plans this weekend but keep an eye to the sky especially in the hours mentioned here.

Come on, hit us with your best shot...
It's time for the 2018 Blue Ridge Parkway Calendar Photo Contest! Through June 1, 2017, submit your best photos from the Blue Ridge Parkway to our Photo Contest. We will choose Finalists and Voting will be in early June.
While we love the iconic standard scenes, we particularly enjoy unique perspectives on the many often-seen views, new, rarely seen scenes, and modern twists on America's Most Scenic Parkway.

Forecast Discussion

High pressure centered in the Eastern Gulf is pumping warm, moist air into the Southeast. A frontal boundary stretches from Northern VA across the Ohio Valley to Missouri. It is making slow progress southward. Another front is pressing east into the Mississippi and eventually Tennessee River Valleys.

Saturday has increasing clouds and warmer temperatures. Isolated showers and storms are possible this afternoon. But a line of storms will form to our west late today affecting our weather late-day and this evening.

Sunday, warm temperatures continue. Shower and storm coverage will be greater but still "scattered". Memorial Day looks drier with only isolated thundershowers.

Tuesday through Friday, a frontal boundary will be just to our south. Details of it's location are unknowable at this time. We'll have seasonal temperatures and tons of dry weather; however, I cannot completely rule out an afternoon thundershower any of these days. Hopefully, we'll be able to be more specific as time draws closer.
