Brushed by Cindy

The remnant low of Tropical Storm Cindy moves from east Arkansas to southern KY today. It this speeds to DC by Saturday morning then exits the country across Cape Cod Saturday night. We had a round of rain Thursday afternoon and Thursday night--moisture pulled out of the Gulf well ahead of the center of circulation. Today brings a break in the action with a brief look at the sun and only isolated showers. Tonight, as the low passes to our north, showers and storms redevelop with gusty winds. Showers linger into Saturday morning and skies will be slow to clear. Sunday begins a lengthy span of dry, relatively cool days.

We are finishing work on the 2018 Blue Ridge Parkway Calendar and hope to have it to the printer by early July with calendars available mid/late July. However like the last couple years, many photos, 50-60, from the Parkway will appear in the calendar. Click here for the winning photos.

Forecast Discussion

It was a rainy, stormy Thursday night across the Mid-South. The remnant low from Tropical Storm Cindy moves across West Tennessee into southern Kentucky Friday. It then speeds to near DC by Saturday morning and then Cape Cod Saturday night. Meanwhile, a cold front presses through here from the northwest Saturday morning.

We get a glancing blow from the storm system. Rains Thursday afternoon and Thursday night have pushed to our east. We now await showers and storms associated with the low itself; they come tonight along with gusty winds. Showers linger into Saturday, mostly limited to the morning. Clouds will be slow to exit Saturday as the front lumbers slowly southeast.

Beginning Sunday, it's high pressure and more high pressure. That means lots of sunshine and cooler than average temperatures for much of next week. The coolest day will be Tuesday as a reinforcing shot of relatively cool air arrives. Temperatures rebound gradually in the second half of the week.
