Thursday Afternoon Rumble

A front is approaching from the west today. The timing of the front with daytime heating spurred us to increase coverage of showers and thundershowers to "scattered" for the remainder of the afternoon hours. Rain should be out of here by this evening. The front quickly moves north tomorrow allowing warm weather to return. Friday will be warm and dry like yesterday; add 4-5 degrees to that Saturday. Sunday will be less warm because of more clouds. We have to include a mention of renegade afternoon thunder Saturday and Sunday.

The Golf-O-Meter is now the Raccoon-O-Meter for MerleFest in Wilkesboro, NC, Thursday through Sunday! Overall the weather looks terrific. Unusual warmth will be the most notable weather feature this weekend. But scattered thundershowers will be around this afternoon; tonight looks dry by the time Mandolin Orange and then the Avett Brothers hit the main stage. Friday will be dry. Saturday has just a barely worth mentioning chance of an afternoon thundershower. An isolated thunder shower is possible there late Sunday. See our Hour by Hour MerleFest Forecast for details.

Forecast Discussion

Wednesday was a sample of what's coming Friday and Saturday--temperatures more like June or July than April. But first we must contend with a front approaching from the west.

Clouds have increased this morning and scattered showers and thundershowers arrive this afternoon. Temperatures are less warm because of the clouds. Showers end by this evening.

Friday, the front heads north allowing summer heat to return. Friday is almost a carbon copy of Wednesday. Saturday is even warmer with a barely worth mentioning chance of a pop-up afternoon thundershower.

The next front arrives Monday. Ahead of the front, Sunday has more clouds with isolated late-day showers or thundershowers. The daytime Monday looks rather rainy, ending by early evening. Temperatures Monday will be closer to the seasonal average.

Tuesday has clearing skies. High pressure gets a 2-day reign in the Southeast leading to a dry and slightly warmer Wednesday.
