Last Very Cold Day for a While

Colder air arrives from the northwest as gusty winds increase this afternoon and tonight. Skies are mostly cloudy this afternoon, but clouds decrease this evening. After a very cold night, temperatures return to seasonal norms Saturday afternoon. Temperatures continue a milder trend Sunday through Tuesday. Clouds increase Sunday, and spotty light rain is possible Sunday night, Monday, and Tuesday (emphasis on "spotty" and "light"). Then toward Christmas... A turn to colder.

Forecast Discussion

The closest front is along the Southeast Coast, but a surge of colder air is arriving from the NW today. We'll have gusty winds this afternoon and overnight with colder temperatures. Clouds are mostly cloudy this afternoon, then decrease tonight.

High pressure slides east from Texas (today) to the Atlantic (late Sunday). Saturday has clear skies. Temperatures return to seasonal Saturday afternoon after a cold start. Clouds increase Sunday afternoon.

Low pressure forms in South Texas Sunday and moves east across the Gulf Coast early next week. Then a weak front from the northwest moves through Tuesday. Monday and Tuesday have milder temperatures and lots of clouds. Spotty light rain is possible Sunday night, Monday, and Tuesday--no precipitation of great significance.

Wednesday and Thursday are cooler but not particularly cold. Wednesday is mostly clear. Clouds increase again late Thursday.

Looking toward Christmas... We flip the pattern to colder again around Christmas Day (give or take a day). Speculation about "white" for Christmas is premature at this point.
