Forecast Discussion

A dry front moves across the Appalachians from west to east tonight with more clouds. Saturday has a mix of clouds and sun with cooler temperatures.

Low pressure develops in Texas Saturday and moves northeast Sunday and Monday. It taps much colder air arriving in the Northern Plains Saturday. Skies become cloudy for a cool Sunday. Rain arrives Sunday evening and may be heavy late Sunday night.

Showers end Monday morning. High temperatures Monday will be in the morning. Temperatures fall through the afternoon on gusty northwest winds. Snow showers and flurries develop from west to east Monday afternoon. Expect snow showers Sunday night and well into Tuesday. Total snow accumulations for the 36-hour event will be focused on the TN/NC border where moderate accumulations are possible. Most of our region will have light accumulations, tapering to only a dusting on the eastern edge of the Appalachians (the Blue Ridge). Tuesday will be the coldest day since last winter.

As the center of this cold high pressure area moves across New England, our temperatures moderate slightly by Wednesday afternoon. Then another low develops in Texas Wednesday. It moves east Thursday. Clouds return Thursday and a cold rain develops late Thursday. This system could bring another round of snow showers and flurries next weekend.
