Forecast Last Updated at Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 4:16PM

Unsettled Evening

A few showers and storms hang around through the evening hours. Wednesday, a weak cold front moves through our area, keeping keeping scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms in our forecast. Here's some good news: Thursday and Friday have the least amount of rain chances this week! Enjoy that while is lasts, because it doesn't last long. Once we head into the weekend, the rain chances rebound and we head back into the typical pattern of summer afternoon showers.

Here are the Winners of the 2019 Blue Ridge Parkway Photo Contest. We received 720 photos and over 16,000 votes. The cover winner was Johnny Davidson.. A rime ice scene from the top of Craggy Pinnacle. Congratulations to all the monthly winners. We will soon choose another 40 or so photos to be included in cameo roles. Thanks to everyone who participated in the contest.

Forecast Discussion

Not much has changed since yesterday. If you had to look a calendar to check that we are still in May, don't worry. I did the same. Even though Hurricane season (no, I am not talking about hockey) starts June 1st, Mother Nature has other ideas. There is a potential tropical storm aimed at Louisiana for the weekend. However, let's zoom back into our home area. The biggest item on the forecast map for us is a cold front, a weak one at that, that will pass through into our area tomorrow. It doesn't stay here too long, as by Friday afternoon it's making its way into South Carolina.

The muggy air sticks around with some showers and thunderstorms continuing through the evening. Wednesday, the aforementioned cold front keeps some convective energy in our area, keeping showers around for another day.

Thursday and Friday swing around to the drier side with isolated shower coverage Thursday afternoon and widely scattered Friday afternoon. Remember that tropical low I mentioned? This weekend Louisiana won't be the only state to feel its effects. As the low tracks North, our moisture and energy levels will increase, thereby increasing our coverage for showers and thundershowers for the weekend into next week.
